The story of the piece

The palla is the decorated length of a stole. Here it is woven, not embroidered: a dense panel of paisleys and scrolling vines rises out of a plain ground in the Kani tradition, then falls away again to fine fringed ends. Fifteen grounds, from saffron and cerulean to ivory, sage and jet — each with its own palette of woven colour.
