Walnut Wood Carving
Juglans regia
Kashmiri walnut is prized for its strength, its grain and its natural sheen. Carvers raise floral, chinar, almond and lattice motifs from the solid wood — skills passed from father to son for generations.

The craft
Only the walnut trees of the Valley are used. The wood is seasoned slowly, then carved in deep relief, fine undercut or open lattice depending on the piece.
Our master carvers include artisans with more than forty years at the bench — capable of drawing an entire horse from a single block of walnut without a single joint.

Bring a reference, a rough sketch or simply an idea. We carve furniture, wall panels, mirrors, screens, trays and objects entirely to your proportions and taste.
The more detailed the carving, the more time it demands — each piece is a slow, deliberate process.
