The story of the piece

Jamawar was the robe-length cloth of the Mughal court, so richly patterned that it was given as a garment of honour. These shawls carry its grandest motif — the paisley, the badam of Kashmir — at full scale, woven edge to edge in the Kani manner and finished with a fine border and knotted fringe.
