Medallion carpets
The medallion is the great classical form: a single ornament at the centre of the field, corner spandrels answering it, and a border holding the whole. Within that form there is endless variety — a sunburst on indigo, a stepped lozenge in sand, a pale heart on crimson — and the choice of medallion is the first decision in commissioning a carpet.
The designs we weave
Khurasan — an ivory-and-saffron medallion on a madder-red garden, our signature piece, nearly four and a half million knots. Kashan — the classical layout, in madder red or turquoise. Tabriz — a pale medallion on crimson with broad ivory borders. Artibal — a golden sunburst with long pendants on indigo-violet. Khursaam — a stepped lozenge in quiet ivory and sand for contemporary rooms.
Choosing a medallion for a room
A medallion carpet wants to be seen whole, with its centre at the centre of the room or the seating. Leave the medallion uncovered by furniture where you can; a coffee table with a glass or open top keeps it visible. In a dining room, size the carpet so that chairs remain on it when drawn out.
Questions
What size should a medallion carpet be?
Large enough that the medallion sits at the centre of the seating or the room, with the front legs of sofas and chairs resting on the carpet. Our carpets are hand-knotted to any dimensions, so the size can be drawn for the room.
